Tournament Structure

All NIT’s:  NIT’s will follow the standard USSSA NIT format.  Double-Elimination with seeding by points/by class.  Winning team will receive paid World Berth and travel $$ up to $600 depending on the number of teams entered.  Highest finishing “D” team in the B/C NIT will receive a Paid National Berth to the National Tournament of their choice.

Women Conference Preview: Higher Division Teams will “run-spot” Lower Division Teams as described below.  The teams spotting runs will be the home team.  There will be a run rule of 10 runs after 5 innings of play.  Spotted runs do not count toward the run rule.  Two games of pool play for seeding into double elimination bracket.  The four teams going 0-2 in the bracket will play in a single elimination consolation bracket.  The overall tournament winner, the highest finishing “C” team and highest finishing “D” team will all receive a paid National Berth.  If the team were to also win their appropriate State tournament, winning a paid national berth…we will either pay your World Berth or payout the prize as travel $$ for the World Tournament.

Men’s B Non-Qualifier (Sunday only): Higher Division Teams will run-spot lower Division Teams 4 runs per class.   Teams spotting the runs will be the home team.  Teams will play with the higher teams home run limit.  Double-Elimination with seeding by points/by class.

Balls will be provided for all USSSA-Nebraska Tournament Play

USSSA- Nebraska
Issue #1
 2009 Newsletter

Welcome to the start of the 2009 Season.  I am looking forward to another great season of softball here in Nebraska.  There will be several changes taking place this year and I will try to keep you as informed as possible.

My contact information has not changed; I can be reached by email at director@softballnebraska.com or (402) 709-0609.

The first change is in the softballs that will be used in USSSA play this year.  As it was stated in the 2008 rule book, the ball for play in USSSA will be the “Classic M” for men’s play, and the “Classic W” for women’s play.  Balls will be provided for all USSSA tournaments played in Omaha.  Check with the appropriate tournament director for all other tournaments.

All of the ballparks in Omaha and Council Bluffs prohibit alcohol.  Alcohol will not be allowed anywhere in the complex.  Any member of a team who violates this will be ejected from the tournament or league play.  If a team has a second violation the entire team will be ejected from the tournament/league.

Also new this year the Council Bluffs fields are Smoke Free.  Per the Iowa Smokefree Air Act—smoking is prohibited on the fields, in the dugouts, in and around the bleachers and concessions areas at all times.

We are trying to increase the number of tournament options available to play in.  We will try to provide the most current list of tournaments possible in these newsletters and also on the Omaha Softball Series website under the USSSA tab (www.omahasoftballseries.com).  A complete list of all USSSA tournaments across the United States is always available at www.usssa.com

All teams are encouraged to begin registering online at www.usssa.com

The next issue of the USSSA-Nebraska newsletter should be out by the first week of March.

As always, thank you for choosing to play USSSA softball and good luck this season.
